The signature species of Southeast Louisiana. Redfish are powerful, available year-round, and the reason most visiting anglers make the trip to St. Bernard. Fall is the standout season — especially for bull reds — but slot fish are on the flats through spring and summer too.
A mainstay of the St. Bernard fishery and one of the best eating fish in the Gulf. Speckled trout are fun on light tackle and reliably active from late spring through summer. They hold on grass edges and tidal cuts — the right spot at the right tide makes all the difference.
Found year-round on structure throughout the marsh — pilings, bridges, oyster reefs. Sheepshead are fun to catch and excellent table fare. Late spring and early summer, when they’re spawning and feeding aggressively, is the prime window.
