New Orleans Fishing Charters

New Orleans Fishing Charters

New Orleans puts you 35 minutes from one of the best inshore fisheries in the country. Captain Jimmy Corley runs guided trips out of Shell Beach in St. Bernard Parish — redfish, speckled trout, black drum, sheepshead, and flounder year-round.

One of the top-rated fishing guides in the New Orleans area, with nearly 300 five-star Google reviews.

The Charter Fishing Experience You Really Want

Hundreds of 5-star reviews don’t happen by accident. When you fish with Waterfowl Specialist, we take care of everything — bait, tackle, drinks, and we even make you lunch. If you’re staying at the lodge, that’s breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

No nickel-and-dime games. One fair price covers your trip, bait, and fuel. That’s it.

Captain Jimmy Corley was born and raised right here in St. Bernard. He knows these waters like the back of his hand — and when conditions get tough and other captains start making excuses, he keeps working. That’s why clients come back year after year.

New Orleans Fishing Seasons: When to Book Your Fishing Charter

Louisiana’s warm and humid climate creates excellent fishing opportunities year-round, though each season offers unique advantages:

Spring (March-May): Prime time for speckled trout as they move into shallower waters. Red fish become more active with warming temperatures.

Summer (June-August): Excellent for early morning and evening fishing trips. Redfish and speckled trout can be found in deeper channels during midday heat.

Fall (September-November): Perhaps the best season for New Orleans fishing charters with abundant speckled trout and aggressive redfish feeding before winter.

Winter (December-February): Excellent black drum fishing and often the best time to catch trophy-sized speckled trout.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a fishing license?
Yes — all anglers need a valid Louisiana fishing license before the trip. Non-residents can purchase a temporary license online through the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries website. It takes about five minutes. If you need help finding it, just ask when you book.

Can kids come?
Absolutely. Captain Jimmy has put a lot of kids on their first fish, and there’s nothing better. We’ll get them set up and keep it fun from the first cast.

What if the weather is bad?
We monitor conditions closely and will reach out before your trip if something looks serious. Southeast Louisiana weather can change fast — if it becomes unsafe, we’ll reschedule. Light rain and wind are part of fishing down here and usually don’t affect the trip.

What’s included in the price?
Everything you need to fish — bait, tackle, rods, fuel, ice, drinks, and lunch. If you’re staying at the lodge, that’s breakfast, lunch, and dinner. One price, no add-ons.

What should I bring?
Your fishing license, sunscreen, sunglasses, and clothes you don’t mind getting wet. Soft-soled shoes are best on the boat. We handle the rest.

How many people can fish at once?
Up to 4 anglers on a standard charter. Larger groups can book the lodge packages — see pricing above.

Where do we depart from?
All trips depart from the lodge at 2104 East Christie Drive, St. Bernard, Louisiana — about 35 minutes from downtown New Orleans.

Is there a cancellation policy?
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to hold your date. The remaining balance is charged in full if cancelled within 48 hours of the trip.
